Website Splash Pages
Many sites use splash pages as an introductory page to their website. Splash pages are generally used to display Flash movies or technical requirements of the site.
While we’ve worked with many clients that though they wanted a splash page for their site, when asked, most admitted that they generally pressed the “skip intro” link on these pages. What good is having a design firm create something that your visitors will most likely skip right over?
Splash pages do help you to get an initial marketing message to a new visitor quickly. They are also a great way to display recent clients and work right up front.
Here’s the problem though. In best practice web design the goal is to get your site visitors to the information they are looking for in the fewest clicks possible. If that is a key facet of usability then you’ve just ignored it by adding a click with your splash page.
Instead, design your home page with though and care. Plan your navigation with clear concise wording. Develop you site with K.I.S.S. as your mantra.
