More Users Are Opting In To Professional Email Marketing Subscriptions

December 10th, 2010 5 comments

Research shows that email is the preferred communication of consumers with companies. That makes sense. Busy consumers want to send a question, request or comment and get back to their busy lives. This is good for them and good for your business. Email is easy to manage compared to the complexities of a customer service phone center.

Family and friend emails are still the most dominant form of email, however permission email acceptance continues to grow.

Email communication with family and friends represents anywhere from 35% to 37% of all email delivery, while permission based emails from businesses and brands represents around 30% in 2010. This is according to research presented by Rich Fleck, vice president of of interactive strategic services for Merkle, during MediaPost’s Email Insider Summit.

Right now email engagement is steady — with 86% checking their email account one or more times a day; around 40% check at least four times a day. Fleck says it’s good news that there are more companies being allowed to send emails to individual consumers — an average of 11.3 companies in 2010, up from 10.3 companies the year before.

Research also shows that 74% of consumers say that email is their preferred form of communication from companies, direct mail is 16%; phone calls, 4%, social messaging, 2% and text messages, 1%.

Three Basic Elements You Should Include In Every Email Marketing Campaign

November 4th, 2009 5 comments

Email Marketing has been around for quite a while now, however there are countless businesses not taking advantage of this marketing medium. Some businesses that are, still don’t know even the basics about how to effectively use their email marketing systems, and treat these messages as just another email. Here are 3 elements that every email marketing campaign should have.

1. Personalization – Nothing says, “I don’t care about you” like a generic email. It’s like getting those letters in the mail addressed to “Valued Resident.” Personalization can come in the form of customized salutations, messages sent with a specific initiative based on a recent user activity (taking advantage of list segmentation), or even just the tone of the message itself.

2. Branding – Every message should incorporate your brand in some way. It can range from the complex, like videos and Flash, to the utterly simple, like a custom logo, customized signature or slogan. The point is, you want each email to be immediately associated with the sender.

3. Call To Action – Every message, no matter its content, must guide a user towards a specific action. If you’re sending a product announcement email, provide a link to a pre-populated shopping cart and a FAQ page. If you’re soliciting feedback, provide a link to a form, or other places to connect with the brand like your Twitter account or Facebook page. In all cases, make your call to action prominent. Tell the reader what you want them to do early and often. Once users become accustomed to your email as a portal for interaction and education, they will be much more likely to read it and respond.
