Recognizing New Trends in Search Engine Optimization

February 23rd, 2011 No comments

Search Engine OptimizationSearch engine optimization, SEO, is continually changing and shifting. It never remains static, but is dynamic in nature; presenting a challenge to businesses that want to take full advantage of the benefits it offers. In previous years, if you wanted to harness the power of SEO, there was very little you had to do beyond identifying some keywords. Those times have changed and search engines have become much smarter and more sophisticated. Pages that are keyword stuffed are not punished. Users are no longer reluctant to report spam. The simple fact is that SEO trends have changed in response to the evolution of the technology and if you want to successfully compete, you must stay abreast of the most recent trends in SEO.

The leading websites on the Internet today now feature not only relevant keywords but also key phrases that are appropriate within the content of their back links. Known as anchored inbound links, they are an essential part of modern SEO. Strategic backlinking can be an incredibly productive method for dominating a market, regardless of what it might be. In fact, this method alone can be especially advantageous for the local business enterprise.

Social media has also had a tremendous impact on SEO. It seems everyone is sharing, posting, tweeting and in general, getting involved online. Any website owner today that wants to ensure their site is able to compete must make sure they are taking full advantage of the wide spectrum of social media available today, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more. While the world of modern SEO may seem as though it is thoroughly complex and confusing, a professional search engine optimization firm experienced in the latest trends regarding SEO can help to ensure your site is up to date and ready to take advantage of everything SEO has to offer.

Taking Advantage of the Ability to Optimize Local SEO

February 17th, 2011 No comments

search_engine_optimizationWhere are you in terms of your local SEO? Do you know?

Today it is crucial for every business to develop a presence on the first page of a customer search when the user is searching for a product or service in the local area. For instance, if you operate a carpeting business in Atlanta, Georgia it is essential that the name of your business appear on the first page whenever a customer in Atlanta searches for carpeting businesses. The question is: what can you do to maximize your chances of landing on that crucial first page?

There are actually a few different ways in which you can improve your chances and optimize your local SEO. The first step is to make sure you are listed with the search engines. While this sounds simple and easy enough, it is surprising the number of businesses that overlook this crucial step. Being listed by Google Maps can assist you significantly when it comes to maximizing local SEO. You will need to complete an application and then become verified. The process can take some time before your business will begin to show up, but it is time that is well spent and worth the effort. Remember, the more exposure your business receives, the more your business will grow.

Another effective way to optimize your site’s SEO for your local region is to be sure you are listed within the yellow pages directories. Some of the most common examples of these directories include Yellow Pages, CitySearch and Yellow Book. People really have not changed that much. They still continue to use these sites in the same way they once let their fingers do the walking through the traditional yellow pages of the phone book. The only difference is that now they are letting their fingers do the walking online. Local SEO is crucial to your website and should not be overlooked.

A Common Sense Approach to SEO for Business Websites

February 10th, 2011 No comments

atlanta-search-engine-optimizationOne way a business can do well on their search engine optimization programs is to make an effort to be useful to their clients. When clients come to your site, they should get a bit more than a sales brochure for their efforts. The idea behind many SEO efforts is to develop a site into something that’s actually useful for the reader. This entails some basic considerations.

  • The site should be easy to navigate
  • The site should have standards-compliant code
  • The site should have substantive content
  • The site should not stuff keywords

If you know a little bit about search engine optimization, you’ve probably heard about keywords. These are simply words that make a site likely to be more relevant to a search and, thus, that make a site more likely to show up in results. If you were an Atlanta, Georgia business and wanted to make sure that you came up among the results for businesses of your type in the area, you’d make sure to mention Atlanta and Georgia a bit in your copy. Stuffing is when you simply state the keyword over and over absent any relevant context. This is considered a form of spamming by the search engines and will get you tossed out of their indexes.

Ask your web design company about search engine optimization and content. They can help you to set aside certain areas of your site for this content and, provided that you make a good effort at having good content developed, your site will be useful to your visitors. This gives you considerable credibility in the eyes of your customers, of course, and gives off the image of a company that puts some thought behind its web design beyond how to make a buck off of it.

Search Engine Optimization for Local Areas

February 1st, 2011 2 comments

Search engine optimization is a way of improving your site so that it gets more attention from the search engines when they come around to index you. This is done, in part, by developing content for the site. One way to make sure your site is seen is to make an effort to target your local area. For an Atlanta, Georgia pest control business, for example, it would be much easier and more productive to develop content specific to Atlanta, Georgia than it would be to develop content about pest control in general.

This is simply due to competition. If your search engine optimization efforts are for pest control on the whole, you’re going to be competing with every single pest control business out there. This includes the huge national names and more. If you’re only doing business in Atlanta, anyway, there’s no point in trying to get to the top of the heap for pest control on a national level. Even if you cover the entire state of Georgia, it makes sense to have a lot of search engine optimization effort directed toward the state than it does to have it directed to a more national audience.

Consider who you really want to reach when you’re working on search engine optimization. Web designers can help you to determine good strategies for this effort and can develop your site accordingly. They’ll also make sure that the code that makes your site work is up to web development standards, which is another hugely important part of SEO. The search engines thrive on providing good resources, so they tend to look favorably upon businesses that go to the trouble to make their sites a bit better than the rest and that emphasize standards-compliant and reliable designs.
