YouTube has increased its video uploads past its 15 minute time limit. “Your creativity isn’t bound by a time limit, so why should your video uploads be?” says a YouTube blog post. The blog post did specify what the new limits will be. But it suggested that videos as long as one to two hours in length could be acceptable.
But YouTube says there are some restrictions. Extended videos will only be available to users who have never violated copyright rules and have followed YouTube’s community guidelines.
YouTube did not mention premium TV content, but some analysts think that the company is looking to even the playing field with sites such as Hulu, which allow viewers to watch regular TV shows. Some premium TV content owners are already able to upload longer videos.
YouTube claims the change is based on the ability to control copyright violations.
